I had a hip replacement on March 13, after 7 wks, I dislocated twice, 4 days apart. It was horrible!!! My surgeon said he had the ball at the wrong angle so, I then needed a revision which I had May 21st. This has been a horrible experience all the way around. The pain has been brutal and progress, like molasses. They said it would go like this unfortunately. I’ve had a therapist once a week here for 3 weeks. She’s had me doing PT but even though I’m 5-6 weeks post op, my therapy’s more of this two week in progress. The therapist is done now and I’m on my own looking forward to what PT I should continue with and how many reps etc. I’m doing the ones in this video now actually but, I don’t know when to move on exactly?? Depending on my pain level I guess???? Thank you for this video and ANY ADVICE you may have! I really appreciate it!!!!!

How about if I try to put my arm in the water so that it creates a thousand toroidal vortices as though it were a stream tube. What then if I stretch those toroidal vortices laterally creaating first one leading edge vortex and then shear away to another? Would that create that hole in the water?

I think the idea that a revision ( 2nd replacement) of a hip is just a 3 month interruption is misguided. Revisions require longer prosthetics which tend to be less stable long term, so at that stage running is very unlikely as are other sporting activities, so management of a replaced hip to extend its life are important.

I had a total hip replacement nearly 3 weeks ago now and through the posterior process. I think I must be a different healing process ( deep muscle cuts 6/7 layers of stitching is what I was told) so, I was much less mobile than this lady but am slowly getting there 😊 I was also lucky that my GP, physio and surgeon all understood that the amount of pain I was in and my very limited mobility indicated that there was more damage than the X-ray and MRI indicated. Turns out I also had total cartiledge wear on top of the femur, not visible until discovered during surgery

Any advice re elliptical workouts as a safe alternative to running - or just less impact but still likely to wear out joint in long term? I am life long runner and tennis player- got a sudden right hip labrum tear at age 63 while playing tennis and repair surgery likely not a successful option for me. Thinking a THR may be in future but want to remain active, want to return to running at least couple miles daily. Elliptical not the same but wondering if investment in a elliptical machine might be worthy.

OMG, you poor thing. Why is it pending for so long? Didn't your doctor tell you that the longer it takes the more difficult the operation will be? I will be having the anterior approach (which is supposed to be better than posterior) hip replacement in April. I have Bursitis and osteoarthritis in my right hip. I've literally been dependent on Diclofenac, the worst medication and Tylenol Arthritis pain relievers but still get pain. Part of my socket has deteriorated and I'm bone on bone. Sometimes I can't sleep at night or could barely walk due to so much pain. This started since I think in 2016 but was exacerbated when I went to Six Flags, all that walking and left limping back in 2022. I was told that since I'm bone on bone it's better to not wait. Be careful because you don't want to be wheelchair bound if you do not get the surgery sooner but I hope that does not happen to you at all. I wish you the best of luck and hope you finally get your surgery.

I’ve had 40 years of intermittent hip pain in my right hip and 15 years in the left. Sometimes the pain stops me dead and d I can’t do anything, other times I can go a few weeks without hurting at all. My x-rays show only mild OA and bilateral dysplasia. My hip mobility is still very good most of the time due to my hypermobility so every NHS doctor says there’s not a lot wrong. However, a recent MRI (done privately) showed severe sub-chondral cysts in both acetabulae and the consultant says that this proves cartilage damage and that I need bone grafts and two new hips asap. Still at the “rabbit caught in the headlights” phase at the moment.

    • @Schmannie100

I was dismissed by the same doc for 1.5 years saying it was OA and what did I expect him to do? Ugh. So I got an MRI from another doc and he said my hip was done. Then got a third opinion for good measure. You have to be your own advocate and almost your own doctor to get anything done. 😐

Thank you for your detailed analysis of the muscle groups in and around the arm that should be working when correctly engaging the freestyle stroke. I've come on to this page because I've just done two Pilates classes on a reformer bed and my triceps are in a lot of pain. Because I swim three times a week I was puzzled as to why these muscles would be so sore, and as you have explained, these should not be employed if one is correctly engaged in the freestyle stroke (or for that matter butterfly or breaststroke). My concern was that I was not holding the catch position correctly. You have vindicated that I must be doing it correctly because if they were engaged then a dropped elbow follows and I probably wouldn't be in so much pain right now.

I had a total hip replacement in Feb 2021 on my right hip which was causing tremendous pain. I was walking on my own before my PT was finished and that awful pain was gone. At that time I was told my left hip would also need to be replaced as well....Three years have passed and I am ready to get that hip done in March. The pain started in late 22 but I have held off because I could still do all my normal activities. This time I will be going to a surgi center and go home the same day. I looking forward to pain-free hips and longer walks with my husband and dog.

I had my hip joint replaced on 10/1/24. I had been waiting 2 years and in increasing amount of pain. I was told by the hospital that it could be another 3 to 4 year wait. I felt so desperate with the pain that i had no choice but to go private. i couldn't afford the U.K so went to Nordorthopaedics in Lithuania. I cannot praise them highly enough. I feel like i can now get my life back. The NHS doesn't seem to get what a huge knock on effect the pain has on your mental health. I was bone on bone and told injection wouldn't help by NHS hospital.

I was told 6 years ago that I was inevitably going to end up needing a hip replacement. Well now I can't walk, work, sleep, sit etc without excruciating pain every day all day. I try all in UA-cam physical therapy routines over the years but nothing relieves pain. My job requires me to bend, walk and lift heavy parts plus drive for long distances at times most days. My wife and I both work full time but can barely make ends meet and our insurance has a $9,400 deductible that I guess I have to meet before I sure can pick up their portion. Plus I can't afford to be out of work or we wouldn't be able to pay bills/rent. Anyone have any idea the predicament I'm in.

Sorry to hear. You can apply for SSI or SSD that pays more and you can work p/t, with SSI you cannot work and you won't get as much. But with an attorney, you may be able to win the case. It may be a long wait though to go through the application process, especially getting a court date. I am having an anterior right hip replacement and with my income I definitely can't afford the cost, however, I will apply for Financial Aid through the hospital when I get the bill and it's a possibility that the cost may be forgiven or partially discounted but they do look at your income. Hope that helps & good luck.

Had my right hip replaced in September of 2014. It went from no pain to extreme pain within 14 months. It would lock up on me sometimes. The surgeon after the procedure was it had a lot of bone spurs on it. Now my left hip needs replaced but it is not as progressive in pain or locks up light the right hip did. Been two years but is half way controlled buy Tramadol or it keeps changing Aleve. But this time they won’t do the procedure until my BMI is below 40. Which ment I needed to lose 50 lbs. I am done 40 lbs but I have 10 lbs to go. But I have to walk with a cane for balance and to take the weight of my left hip. I will be glad to get it done so I can get back to doing my normal activities.
